First, Hutson notes, comes value creation. This comes before solving problems or identifying needs. Private sector environmental value creation and profitability must precede environmental benefit. Hutson is a senior project manager at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), where he advises corporate partners such as Wal-Mart on sustainable supply chain initiatives. Hutson holds a PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MEM from the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment. He earned his BA from Michigan State University.
